Outlook 97 SMTP Authentication

Notice!

Outlook 97 users may find some difficulty setting up your email client to get Authenticated SMTP to work.  Although Microsoft says it works, we have had reason to think otherwise.  Microsoft has several topics discussing this very issue.  You can find one here on authenticated SMTP and one here on setting up a Hotmail account.  Hotmail also uses Authenticated SMTP.

Many of our clients have found that this is a good time to upgrade their office software to a newer version.  Outlook 98 and above all have great success with authenticated SMTP.  Other clients have found that there was no particular reason they were using Outlook instead of Outlook Express and decided to change to Outlook Express.  Outlook Express is free and can be found with the Internet Explorer upgrade here.  If you already have Internet Explorer 5.x or above, you can set it up to start receiving your email right now, by selecting your version below.
