Outlook 97 users may find
some difficulty setting up your email client to get Authenticated SMTP
to work. Although Microsoft says it works, we have had reason to
think otherwise. Microsoft has several topics discussing this very
issue. You can find one here

on setting up a Hotmail account. Hotmail also uses Authenticated
SMTP.
Many of our clients have
found that this is a good time to upgrade their office software to a
newer version. Outlook 98 and above all have great success with
authenticated SMTP. Other clients have found that there was no
particular reason they were using Outlook instead of Outlook Express and
decided to change to Outlook Express. Outlook Express is free and
can be found with the Internet Explorer upgrade here.
