If you've ever had
problems with your internet connection you know how frustrating it
can be. In order for us to solve your computer problems as
quickly as possible, here are a few general steps to follow before
contacting the HelpDesk.
-
Be at the computer.
Have it turned on and running.
NOTE: If you are connected through DSL or Cable modem
service, then you should have the program open that you are
calling about. If you are connected through Dial-up
service, then you should have your computer on, but not logged
in when you call us (unless you have a separate phone line for
the Internet).
-
Know what programs you are
using.
What Browser (i.e. Netscape, Internet Explorer)?
What E-mail Client (i.e. Eudora, Netscape Mail, Outlook
Express)?
-
Write down error messages
if any.
-
Know what your username is,
email address and password.
-
Try to outline the
problem.
Is it an e-mail problem?
Browser Problem?
Connection problem?
-
Describe when this is
happening.
When did it last work correctly?
When did the problem begin?
Does the problem only happen at certain times?
-
Let us know if you have a
separate phone line for your modem or if you have a cell phone.
(Dial-up only)
